Forever In Our Hearts

...a year on

Exactly a 365 days ago, our lives took a turn, the music paused, a kind of caesura for us. Like a long bad dream, you vanished from this realm to return home.

You joined the saints and became a witness to cheer us on. We do not cease to give thanks to God at every rememberance of you, because you fulfilled your purpose. Our solice is that you returned to your maker, whom you loved so well. Only God can fill the vacuum you left in us.

Our special thanks to God Almighty for the grace and the comfort He gave us, as well as for the gift of men. Our special thanks to ALL who stood by and with us during this dark period: family, friends, colleagues and the brethren.

My dear Toyin, the children and I sorely miss you. But you are resting in the perfect place of no strife. We see your prints here and there, and your voice is loud in our hearts.

May your gentle soul continue to rest in peace until resurrection morning when we reunite again in Jesus Name.

We love you.

The Memory of the Righteous is Blessed
Proverbs 10:7

This site was created in memory of our dear Toyin Adenuga. A loving husband, father, uncle, brother and friend.

Born in Ijebu-Igbo

NOVEMBER 15th, 1963

Oluwatoyin Idowu Adenuga was the first born of his father and mother. In his early years, his parents relocated to Lagos, the then  capital of the federal Republic of Nigeria where he spent the most part of his adulescence. He completed his secondary education at the then prestigious Mayflower Secondary School headed by the late sage-Tai Solarin, before proceeding to the University.

Toyin Adenuga was an alumnus of the great University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. While completing his studies, he forged a lifelong friendship with none more notable than the love of his life, his darling wife; Mrs Adenike Adenuga. The friendship culminated in marriage in 1992 and have raised 4 Godly children together.

Driven by his zeal for acquisition of knowledge and skill, after completing his degree, (while in search of employment), Toyin taught himself how to build computers and also learned programming languages. Although for free at the time, this additional skill no doubt played a critical role in getting his first job with  Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC)- the dream of most young applicants in his days. The rest is history as they say, as Toyin enjoyed a illustrious and eventful career spanning over 29 years in this place of employment. He served in several capacities in SPDC;(including serving as) Field Engineer, Project Manager, Commercial Adviser, Commercial Operations Manager after which he moved on to Shell Nigeria Gas. There, he served as the Managing Director for over 5 years, leaving an undeniable impact before his retirement.

The retirement from a most active work life had come, we thought that the time to rest, relax and enjoy a well-deserved retirement from active service had come. We were all in error. Two months into his retirement, he was head hunted for his expertise by South Atlantic Petroleum Limited, SAPETRO (an upstream oil Company), as a consultant. That started another fruitful chapter in his career that lasted over 5 years in which he served as a General Manager/Managing Director before his untimely death.

He was a visionary leader, exceptionally self-driven and motivated, a devout christian who loved God and a man of unparalleled simplicity. He served God in various capacities in his local Church, Christ Chapel International Churches, CCIC, centers in Port-Harcourt and Lagos, Nigeria. To name a few of his roles in service to God, he was a marriage counsellor, a church administrator, an excellent teacher of the word and  a Pastor. He wholeheartedly believed in living a life of service to God, and to humanity.

His impact was felt in all aspects of his life; from family, to his church, his friendships and in his community. Toyin Adenuga lived life to the fullest, especially when it came to playing golf. As the popular saying goes, it is not how long but how well. Toyin lived well. He shall be most missed by his family who were a treasure to him, his brethren and friends Today we honour his memory with these tributes, celebrating his passion and dedication. Let's remember his spirit and cherish the memory of him.
